And back.....

In more ways than one. Last week was a very emotional moment as my oldest nephew, Sam, graduated from the USMC boot camp and became a Marine. He was an honor graduate and Iron Man of his group. Watching him march and conduct himself as a Marine brought many mixed emotions.

I remember very vividly the first time I saw and held him. My sister took him out of his crib and placed him in my arm. So small and perfect. Watching him grow over the years, he was for many years my 'best buddy'. We shared a closeness that faded as he grew older and developed other interests. It has left me sad at times but I know that he has to go his own way and uncles arent the coolest guys in town :).

But he has marched to his own drum and calling and for better or worse, he embarks on a career that has seemingly been written for him for some years. He is in God's care and hands and I pray for him every day. Yes, I am scared of what may happen in the future but I know his life will run according to the plan He has set for Sam.

He is no longer my little buddy but a man. A US Marine. And I'm very proud of him.
